The decision that excludes people

Self-service only means a member with no smartphone and no data cannot join at all. In a market where paying cash at the office is the norm, this is the riskiest choice in the design. The WhatsApp reply commands soften the ongoing experience but do nothing for signup.

Choose your stand

First come, first served. A stand you pick is held for 72 hours while you complete the paperwork.

StandSizePriceMonthlyStatus
Two members cannot hold one stand

Reservation is transactional. The hold expires automatically after 72 hours and the stand returns to the pool, with the member notified.

Awaiting allocation

Where the cooperative allocates by ballot or seniority, the member never browses. J3 inverts: the committee assigns, the member accepts or declines.

Both modes converge

Whichever route the member took, they land on the same cost breakdown and the same contract. Only the step before it differs, which is why allocation mode is a development setting rather than a fork in the product.

Why this mode exists

Many Zimbabwean cooperatives allocate by ballot, seniority on a waiting list, or committee decision — not first come, first served. Building only self-select would have made the product unusable for a large part of the market.

What this stand costs

A confirmed size or price different from the provisional one raises a variation you must accept. Your contract is never silently edited — a new version supersedes it and everything you have paid carries across.

Your stand has changed

The approved subdivision diagram altered this stand's size, so the principal is genuinely different. A levy could not express this — and could not express a stand that got smaller and owes you money.

Version 2 proposed

You need an active contract before a variation can be offered.

The surveyor's approved diagram makes your stand 2250 sq ft rather than the provisional 2400 sq ft it was sold as. That is a change to what you owe.

Nothing changes unless you accept

Your existing contract is never edited. Accepting writes a new version pointing at the old one, and everything you have already paid carries across untouched.

If you decline

Your current terms stand and the cooperative will contact you. In practice a disputed variation usually resolves either as a negotiated adjustment or as an exit under the forfeiture schedule.

Accepted — now on version 2

Your schedule has been regenerated over the remaining term. The previous version is kept, superseded rather than deleted, and can be reconstructed in full at any point in the future.

Leave the scheme

Computed from the forfeiture schedule the cooperative set before anyone signed — so you can see the rule now, rather than discover it when you need it.

The delivery record is the point

"We told you" and "no you did not" is a common cooperative dispute. Every fan-out leaves a row with a terminal status, so the answer is a lookup rather than an argument.

This is the question members actually ask

Not "what is my balance" — that one is easy. It is "where has all our money gone", and until now the only answer was a committee member's word at an AGM.

The other two were fine

Your proof of residence and marriage certificate were accepted and are still on file. Only the ID copy needs redoing.

Nothing was deleted

The photograph you sent is still in the record, with the reason it was returned. A rejection is a step in the conversation, not an erasure of it.

You declined the variation

Your contract is untouched. Version 1 still stands.

With the cooperative

Nothing has changed on your account

Your principal, your monthly and your schedule are exactly as they were. Declining a variation is not a default and does not put you in arrears.

3One of three outcomesA revised variation, an agreement to absorb the difference, or an exit under the forfeiture schedule
A stalemate is possible

If the surveyed stand is genuinely smaller and you will not accept a lower price for it, there is no version of the contract that suits both sides. The honest outcome is an exit, and the forfeiture schedule decides what comes back.

A pending payment does not move your balance

Only a confirmed one does. That is deliberate — a balance that moved on an unconfirmed payment would be a balance that could move back, which is the thing this product exists to eliminate.

Other ways to pay

Cash at the office is recorded on the spot and you get a receipt before you leave. A bank deposit works too, but takes up to two working days to reach your balance.

If this is a repeated problem

Talk to the cooperative before the instalment goes overdue. A payment arrangement agreed in advance is always better than arrears found afterwards.
